Israeli rabbis and Kabbalah (ancient Jewish mystical belief system) mystics have went airborne over the country in an attempt to halt the spread of the dreaded H1N1 swine flu virus. Their weapons of viral destruction were ceremonial trumpets known as shofars (ritual rams’ horns) as they FLU over their disputed land.
The highly unusual event took place on Monday when around 50 Jewish holy men boarded an Arkia flight from Ben Gurion Airport. They took to the skies to chant prayers and blew their shofars seven times in a ritual which they believe would halt the spread of the disease through Israel in its tracks.
The story that was covered by the Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, and has Rabbi Yitzhak Batzri claiming;
“The aim of the flight was to stop the pandemic so people will stop dying from it,”
He continues to hail the mission as a resounding success;
“We are certain that, thanks to the prayer, the danger is already behind us”
Since the eating pork is banned under kosher dietary rules, Israel’s ultra-orthodox Deputy Health Minister hit the headlines by controversially insisted that the Influenza A H1N1 should not be referred to as ‘swine flu’. He was unsuccessful in his attempts to have the virus renamed as ‘Mexican flu’.
However, official statistics regarding the spread of H1N1 through Israel since the virus was initially diagnosed in the region show that some 2,000 have contracted the virus and has lead to 5 fatalities.
P.S. It’s a pity they could’nt have used the same technique against Hamas rockets prior to their 22 Day Invasion of Palestine!
